May 30, 2008 SCE&G and Santee Cooper file a combined application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility, Public Convenience and Necessity and for a Base Load Review Order with the South Carolina Public Service Commission and the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff. SCE&G also filed a petition requesting permission to begin initial clearing, excavation and construction work on the proposed new nuclear site, pending approval of the BLRA application
September 25, 2008 The PSC approved the companies’ request to proceed with initial clearing, excavation and construction work at the site.
December 2008 The S.C. Public Service Commission holds hearings on SCE&G’s Combined Application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility, Public Convenience and Necessity, and for a Base Load Review Order. In addition to SCE&G’s need for new electric generation, the PSC hears testimony concerning incremental rate increases to help finance the project.
February 11, 2009 PSC approves plans for two new nuclear plants.
