Timline Detail of the nuclear regulatory commission review
2008-2011 or 2012 The NRC will review the COL application for a period of three to four years before it can issue a combined license to SCE&G and Santee Cooper
March 31, 2008 SCE&G and Santee Cooper submit an application with the NRC for a COL. The COL, once approved, would authorize the companies to build and operate up to two new nuclear electric generating units at the utilities’ existing V.C. Summer Nuclear Station site in Jenkinsville, S.C.
July 31, 2008 The NRC dockets our COL application for review, officially putting it in the queue for review.
January 27 and 28, 2009 The NRC held the first in a series of public environmental scoping meetings in Jenkinsville and Winnsboro, S.C. to give the public an opportunity to voice support or raise issues concerning the nuclear project.
April 2010 The NRC issued its Draft Environmental Impact Statement. In this extensive report, the NRC preliminarily concluded that constructing and operating Units 2 and 3 will have no environmental impact that would preclude the issuance of our COL.
April 2011 The NRC issued its Final Environmental Impact Statement.
August 2011 The NRC issued its Final Safety Evaluation Report.
October 2011 The NRC conducted mandatory COL hearing.
December 2011 The NRC granted final design certification for AP1000.
Early 2012 The NRC is expected to rule on SCE&G and Santee Cooper’s request for a combined construction and operating license.
